Welcome!

Welcome to the Simple English Wikibooks!

We hope you are happy editing here. Some helpful pages to start you off are Wikibooks:Community Portal and Help:Contents.

If you want to meet and talk with other members, you can visit the Simple English Wikibooks Simple talk. Just remember that you should sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words. Main Page/Sandbox/1

What do you think of this? It makes it more user friendly.

And on small screens, the languages don't work all compacted together like that. It really needs to have more room or my computer goes mad. Tholly 11:46, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good Job!

Hi there Microchip, I just wanted to stop by your talk page and say I appreciate all the work you've done around here. The main page looks great and your contributions to the Biology, English and Cookbook Wikibooks are wonderful! Thank you for making this wiki a better place! --Thereen 12:10, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. Thank you for being such a great new user for these Wikibooks! -Thereen 01:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Microchip

Hi, nice to meet you. Thanks for 'welcoming' me to WikiBooks. Peoples mayby knows me as an Wikipedian with this same user name. Are an admin'? If yes, so my congratulations! I've never been an admin'.. Rogerchocodiles 21:26, 24 November 2008 (UTC)RogerchocodilesReply

Wikibooks:User Language

Hello,

Shall we redirect Babel to Wikibooks:User Language? This is the stuff I have imported from Meta.

Cheers, Abigor 17:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template:Babel should stay where it is, because other people visiting will use the Babel templates before anything else. We can add the default template to have a notice saying that it isn't used any more. Microchip08 (talk) 09:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Like on meta? There is a message under the old babel, something like you are useing a old version please update... Abigor 09:22, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but prehaps allowing the languages underneath as well, just in case someone doesn't change over. Microchip08 (talk)#

RFA

Hello,

I just get your message that you have send to Abigor|NotHere. I think its a good idea to run for admin right after my rfa ends. We need active people here, we also need to find more people wanting to join this project.

Best regards, Abigor 22:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Chippy!

I Iz Here!

Is there anything specific that you want doing in the back end?

Otherwise... where can I get tips on books?

Cheers,

BG7even 22:55, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Backend speaking, not really. What's there really to do, although prehaps a template to standardise the "return to contents" page? Wikibooks is relatively simple to grasp: there's various textbooks, with pages as subpages coming off it. At the moment there's no specific guideline as to how to structure it, but I'm working on Wikibooks:Example that you might want to help with. Thanks for coming along, we need help! Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 22:58, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okie dokie. Well i'll also work on red linked project pages and stuff ;) Ok, i'll figure it out ;) I'll also have a look at that template. Got any transport related books? And if so... what shall I put in it? And does it need to be sourced? (For example, would a book about different forms of transport be ok? And then books for specific modes further expanding?) Cheers, BG7even 23:01, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Transport? No. Feel free to make one, although I'm (and speaking on behalf of me, not the community) trying to concentrate on the basic "secondary school" subjects: English, Maths, Sciences, History, Geography [hopefully Razor will take up my offer], etc. However, if you think you can maintain it, go ahead and start one. What do you mean specific modes? Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 23:04, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, well I might be able to contribute to English, Drama or ICT ;) As for specific modes, like a book on Railways/Trains, a book on Tram(way)s etc? BG7even 23:07, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
How about a simple Transport and Transport/Trams &c;. Keep in mind that the project scope is free textbooks and manuals. If you can fit transport into a textbook, then go ahead. Otherwise, it might not work. (not that I'm fussy, the more books, the better). Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 23:09, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Hmmm... perhaps Transport could be a short intro, and then Transport/Trams could be further split into how to drive them, how they work etc? BG7even 12:21, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Make a catch-all Transport Wikibook, then stick Transport/Trams chapters. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 12:58, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okie dokie - will get working on it ;) BG7even 13:33, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

You wanted me here...

...here I am. What is there here, kind of like EN wikibooks? Shapiros10 12:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, ish. Quite simply, pick a wikibook, add some things, new pages go as subpages. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 12:10, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

RfA

Congrats

best regards, Abigor 22:28, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, Microchip08, you are now an administrator! Just don't delete the Main Page on us, now :). Cheers, Razorflame 17:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Danke to both of you. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 17:31, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well done Chippy. It took you a while, but you're finally an admin :) Have fun. Majorly 23:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unblock

Hello,

I just have seen you create a unblock template but since a blocked user can't edit his own talkpage I have a better idea. If somebody want somebody unblocked he should go to a block and protections page. It make it easy to overvieuw and easy to archive.

Best regards, Abigor 22:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Um... how can he edit a block and protections page if he is blocked? Anyways, WB:ADMIN. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
He could contact a user that isn't blocked. But he cannot use the template also... Abigor 22:50, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm currently re-writing the message: Mediawiki talk:Blockedtext -- feel free to fiddle. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 22:51, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah there is the same problem, you are telling people to place a template on the talkpage while the can't edit that page. Abigor 23:00, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I know, I wrote it before realising that it's not on by default. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 23:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
:) oke Abigor 23:16, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome!

Um ... what?? I just looked at this project, maybe for the first time, a few hours ago. You don't have some way to know that I was looking, do you? I didn't do any edits.

It probably just happened that way for no reason.

It's nice to see you. I don't know if you had seen my last message to you at the bottom of this thread. Coppertwig (talk) 20:25, 7 February 2009 (UTC) Reply

When you have a SUL'd account, whenever you log in to a project you create an account. Normally, it automatically creates an account & logs you in when you first visit a project -- so in the RC feed I stalk on IRC, it comes up as Special:Log/newusers autocreate * Coppertwig * autocreate :-). Off to have a look at the link now. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 20:31, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, I can't get the joke myself -- I can't remember what was going through my head at the time :P. Sorry. Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 20:33, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I plan to help out. I've thought about writing an article, I'll try to find a good one. Thanks for the note. :) TheAE talk 22:06, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

:) Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 22:15, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wow, writing a book is harder than being an administrator. :P I suppose I'll just be bold and create a page on something. :) TheAE talk 22:17, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
An administrator is just a few extra buttons on the interweb. Writing a book uses all the buttons on a keyboard :P Regards, Microchip08 (talk) 22:18, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fast deletion

Have a look at Category:Fast deletion pages. Deletions are needed. ;) TheAE talk 02:03, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

RelpaSnoda

Hello,

I just noticed that you blocked this user until the end of time. I checked his contributions but he didn't do anything on Simple.Wikibooks yet. Do you have any proof that it is in fact a spambot?

Best regards, Abigor 20:22, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not personally, but I checked with #wikimedia-stewards. Microchip08 20:24, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure you don't need the importer right since you're an admin, and admins can import stuff. Just letting you know. Griffinofwales 03:30, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Does this matter? Pmlineditor  Talk 11:05, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
We've had this discussion before, research next time. :|. The answer is "yes, I know, there's a reason". Microchip08
